Organic farming is the key factor to protect the earth's resources sustainably. To utilize earth's natural resources in such a way to avoid damage to nature and these resources must be available for our next generation, is a sustainable approach. We are living in an era where we must have to use those methods and techniques through which we can save our planet earth and the only way is organic farming.

ORGANIC FARMING

Organic farming is a natural way of crop production and livestock raising. In this method, we produce high-yield crops or raise high-quality animals without using any harmful chemicals or techniques such as chemical fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, cloning, or hormonal injections. These chemicals are dangerous for the life and health of soil, plants, animals, and humans. Worldwide 3 million people get toxicated from pest and insect-killing chemicals each year and around 20 thousand died from them (WHO, 2019).

MAIN CONCEPTS BEHIND ORGANIC FARMING

Organic farming is based upon the integrated biodiverse sustainable agricultural system, which means that soil health is connected with animals, plants, humans, and their economic activities, so we must use such farming techniques which are environment friendly and safe for soil structure, soil quality, animals, plants as well humans life and health.

CHARACTERISTICS OF ORGANIC FARMING

  • Environment-friendly way of farming
  • Protect water, air, and soil from chemical pollution
  • Maintain ecological balance
  • Use natural ways to increase agricultural production
  • Best opportunity for farmers to become self-sufficient
  • Minimum investment is required
  • Maximum use of local material
  • Long term good health effects on land
  • Maintain soil fertility
  • Food produced from organic farming has good quality and exotic taste

NEED OF ORGANIC FARMING

Organic farming is the necessity of this era because humans have depleted soil, air, and water quality with the excessive use of chemicals. With the massive increase in human population, the demand for food has rapidly increased and farmers used high yield variety seeds to get maximum production. They used chemical fertilizers to maintain the nutrient balance of the soil and to get maximum output. They used pest and insect killers to avoid diseases or insect attacks on agricultural products. So air has been polluted from chemical sprays. Soil yield has decreased due to repetitive production of crops and it became toxic. Underground and freshwater sources have become polluted and unhealthy for consumption, so the solution to all these problems is associated with natural farming practices. Organic farming has long-term environmental, economic, and social benefits. It can naturally enhance soil fertility. Farmers use those methods which can control diseases and pest attack without damage to the natural environment. Agricultural output is cost-effective and of supreme quality.

BENEFITS OF ORGANIC FARMING

  • Organic farming can protect land from degradation
  • Biodegradable natural fertilizers are only used in organic farming
  • High yield soil is achieved
  • Protect soil from washed away during ploughing and heavy rainfall
  • Organic foods are rich in nutrients
  • Soil productivity can increase

HOW TO START ORGANIC FARMING?

Organic farming can be practiced at small landholdings and does not require a large farm size. For watering the crop, rainwater and groundwater must be available. No need for an artificial supply of water to the fields. Groundwater and soil quality must be tested in a laboratory. Organic fertilizers manure and food must be available. Seeds must be chemical-free. The farmer must decide about the crop he wants to grow or the animal he wants to raise organically.

CONCLUSION

We being humans cannot survive and cannot provide a secure future to our next generations, if we will not opt for those methods which are helpful to save our earth's resources. Organic farming is the best farming method to grow crops and raise farm animals without damage to the earth.
